The Chic List

The Chic List: April

This month, we traveled to the most colorful place in the world—India—where our designers were inspired by the sights, textures and creativity of Jaipur. April’s Chic List brings the city to life with simple ways to infuse its vibrancy and richness into your days.

The Quote

A few artful words that capture the essence of our collection:

Color! What a deep and mysterious language, the language of dreams. – Paul Gauguin

The Manicure

Base color is CND shellac in Pink Bikini; gold transfer foil from Daily Charme.

Makeup artist Jen Tsourvakas (@the_jen_of_all_trades) of Parlour 3 used a brilliant Jaipur-worthy pink as the canvas for her recent nail art. Accented with a touch of gold foil, the manicure adds a unique pop of color to even the simplest look—consider them your new statement accessory.

The Cocktail

Our drink of the month was plucked from the pomegranate trees of the Himalayas of Northern India. The refresher features gin, pomegranate juice and club soda, and pairs perfectly with the saturated colors of our India-inspired collection.

Pomegranate Gin Fizz
 2 oz. gin
 2 oz. pomegranate juice
 2 oz. club soda
 2 lime wedges
 fresh mint leaves

Muddle mint and the juice of 2 lime wedges in a cocktail shaker.
Add gin and pomegranate juice, and shake the mixture well.
Fill a glass with ice and fresh mint.
Pour the drink mixture into the glass and top it off with club soda.

The Reading List

As colorful, creative, and rich in detail as our new collection. Our April reading list includes three unique stories of self-discovery and strength.

The Braid by Laetitia Colombani – In this unforgettable international bestseller, three women from very different circumstances around the world find their lives intertwined by a single object and discover what connects us—across cultures, across backgrounds, and across borders.

Before We Visit the Goddess by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni – A beautiful, “deeply affecting” (Kirkus Reviews) novel from the bestselling, award-winning author of Sister of My Heart and The Mistress of Spices about three generations of mothers and daughters who must discover their greatest source of strength in one another.

This is How I Save My Life by Amy B. Scher – The true story of a fiery young woman’s heartwarming and hilarious journey that takes her from near-death in California to a trip around the world in search of her ultimate salvation. Along the way, she discovers a world of cultural mayhem, radical medical treatment, and, most importantly, a piece of her life she never even knew she was missing.

The Films

The gorgeous landscape and rich culture of India set the scene for our list of films this month. From charming to hilarious to heartbreaking—there’s something for everyone.

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel by John Madden – In this dramatic comedy starring Judi Dench, Maggi Smith and Bill Nighy seven English seniors find themselves as the first guests at the enticingly-pitched Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, a resort “for the elderly and beautiful” in Jaipur, India.

Monsoon Wedding by Mira Nair – A “Bollywood meets Hollywood” production where the beauty and certainty of planning a traditional Indian wedding intersects with the uncertainty of the marriage itself. The cinematography is stunning, the dancing is spectacular and the relatable-in-any-culture storyline draws on deep, complex family relationships.

Lion by Garth Davis – Based on the true story of Saroo Brierley who, at just 5-years-old, fell asleep on a train in India, and woke up miles from home. He remained separated from his family for years. Twenty five years after being adopted by an Australian couple, he sets out to find his birth family guided only by his memories, determination and Google Earth technology.

The Look

What do you get when you combine two of India’s most recognized colors? An outfit that is also right on trend—mixing two vibrant hues is the new way to wear color. Pair an orange peasant blouse with a pink pant for a distinct take on the trend. Simple gold jewelry and a pink pump are the perfect complements.
